43 Art History Colouring Book

Regular price $7.50 $0.00 Unit price per
Each book starts from a visual theme based in Art History, usually chosen based around one artwork I really love. After thorough research and image collection, I create freehand pen drawings of the images I've collected. I also hand write each title and artist label on the many pages (A labor of love). After scanning the drawings, and making minimal edits, I layout the pages based on visual cohesiveness as opposed to chronological order.
One of the pages (or a combination of pages) is used for the cover. I add color and title information, and after doing some test printouts at home to look for typos and mistakes, the book is finished!
I then send a digital copy to her small printer in Pennsylvania, ordering small batches of 50 at a time. Upon receiving the printed books (after admiring the fully finished book), each book slides into a compostable plastic sleeve and I hand deliver or ship them to the many stockists around the city and country!

The Makers: Maddie is a New Orleans based painter and illustrator. She began her coloring books in 2015. She often thinks about how her paintings are inherently inspired and shaped by many of the artworks that she researches for the books. Like her own work, The coloring books were developed from a love of drawing and a strong desire to make art accessible to more people.
