About Us

How we started

The #5WomenArtists campaign, created by the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) inspired the creation of ArtGirlRising. A portion from every sale (excluding wholesale) during 2018 and 2019 was donated to NMWA to help fulfil their mission to champion women through the arts.

Over the last 3 years we have donated more than £11,000 to charities and not for profits, including NMWA, Women for Women and Tessera Arts Collective

Why we are here

Our mission is to create an art world where women are equal.

We advocate and celebrate women in the arts. Women in art have faced gender biases for centuries. Female artists have been omitted from art history books and we remain drastically underrepresented and undervalued in museums, galleries, and auction houses to this day.

We help spark conversations and raise awareness about this inequality

Meet the team:

Liezel Strauss is passionate about addressing the under-representation of women artists across the art world and in 2018 the idea for Art Girl Rising sparked. Her creative endeavours span four continents over a decade and she has spoken widely on the positive value of art around the world.

Liezel is also the co-founder and director of Where Are The Women Artists and Subject Matter and in 2019 was named one of UN Women's top 100 female innovators worldwide, as part of their She Innovates Global programme.

Kelly Denyard studied and has been working in Marketing for over 15 years, with her previous job being in Broadcast Media. Having worked with many Creative Agencies, Designers, Editors, Producers and Content Creators over the years, Kelly is very aware how under represented women are in the visual arts.

Having met Liezel whilst they were both living in Malaysia, they now have a life long friendship and a shared passion of women supporting women. Now living in London she is joining forces with ArtGirlRising team to have fun, challenge the status quo and change the numbers.

Nina is from Kuala Lumpur, born and raised. She studied in New York and have always been invested in the arts from her earliest memories. Armed with a quick wit and her sense of humour, she set off into venturing into the Art business with her partner and friend, Liezel.
